PS Controller Calibration

Recalibrate DualShock 4 and DualSense analog sticks at the firmware level. Fix center, range, and save permanently over WebHID.

DualShock / DualSense calibration
Checking

WebHID is required for low-level controller access. Use Chrome, Edge, or Opera on desktop.

How to use
  1. Connect the DualShock 4 or DualSense over USB.
  2. Click Grant device access and pick your Sony controller.
  3. The tester will read current calibration and prompt for center + range capture.
  4. Save when prompted. Calibration persists in controller firmware.

Overview

What the PS Controller Calibration does

PlayStation controllers store stick calibration in on-board firmware. When the sticks drift or lose range, a firmware recalibration writes new center and endpoint values so games see a clean signal again. This tool talks to your DualShock 4 or DualSense over WebHID and walks you through center calibration, range sweep, and permanent save.

Steps

How to run the test

  1. Connect the controller by USB cable (Bluetooth is not supported for calibration).
  2. Click Grant device access and pick your DualShock 4 or DualSense.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts: rest the sticks for center capture, then rotate each stick fully three times for the range sweep.
  4. Confirm and save. The new calibration is stored in the controller firmware and survives reboots.

Firmware calibration versus dead-zones

There are two ways to hide stick drift. In-game dead-zones tell the game to ignore small movements, which masks the drift but does not fix it. Firmware calibration writes new center values to the controller itself so every game sees a clean signal. Firmware calibration is better because it also fixes controllers that no longer reach full deflection, and every game benefits automatically without adjusting settings per title.

When calibration will and will not help

It helps when the resting stick position has shifted a few percent off center, or when a stick no longer reaches -1.00 to 1.00 in one direction. It does not help when a potentiometer track is physically damaged, when the stick module has come loose, or when the stick module is dead. Run our Stick Drift Test first. If drift is under 0.15, calibration is likely to fix it. Above that, plan a module replacement.

How the WebHID flow works

WebHID lets the browser send raw HID output reports directly to the controller, the same reports the PS5 console sends. This tool sends the calibration commands PlayStation uses internally: enter calibration mode, capture center, sweep for range, commit, save. Each step is guided on screen. The controller confirms each write so you know it saved before you close the tab.

What to do if calibration does not stick

Some controllers require a full power cycle after calibration. Disconnect USB, wait 10 seconds, reconnect, and run the Stick Drift Test again. If drift returns immediately, the sensor is damaged and calibration is masking rather than fixing. If drift returns after a few days, the sensor is degrading and will need replacement soon.

Alternative recovery paths on PS5

The PlayStation 5 console has a built-in stick input adjustment in the accessibility settings under Controllers. It works similarly to this tool but only affects games running on that console. If you play across PC, console, and cloud gaming, use this tool for a portable fix. If you only play on PS5, the console setting is fine.

Fix it

Common problems and quick fixes

Calibration completes but drift returns immediately
Sensor is damaged. Plan a module replacement.
Browser cannot see the controller
Connect wired, not Bluetooth. WebHID requires USB for this controller.
Save fails partway through
Do not disconnect. Re-run calibration. Interrupted writes are non-destructive because the process is atomic.
FAQ

Common questions

Does calibration fix hardware drift?+
It fixes drift caused by shifted center values or worn ranges. It cannot fix a physically broken potentiometer, which still needs a module replacement.
Is it safe to write calibration?+
Yes. You are writing to the same calibration region the console updates. If a save goes wrong you can rerun calibration to overwrite it.
Why Chrome or Edge only?+
WebHID is a Chromium-only browser API. Safari and Firefox do not implement it yet.

Plug in wired, grant device access, and follow the prompts. Under 60 seconds and no in-game dead-zone hacks required.
